They are from Bundibugyo, a town in western Uganda that is about a three hour drive from Kasese. Their families remain in Bundibugyo but the girls were sent to the Destiny School because of the accommodating programs and sponsorships the school offers. They came together and are new to the school, they've only been here a couple weeks. Despite being new, I saw them dancing for the worship team during the Wednesday night service!

Gift, 12, P7 and Babirye, 12, P7 are best friends and both wish to be doctors. Babirye is one of the orphans at the school and so is her younger sister. The school feeds them morning, afternoon, and night. She sleeps at the school at night. Gift says her favorite part of school is studying.

Here is a funny little conversation between them:

Babirye says “I want to be taking care of sick people, treating them. Taking care of midwives.” Gift said “Do you know the roll of midwives? Doctors don't take care of them” Babirye responded with “Yes. they are with the mothers of babies helping them when they produce.”

Tracy, 13, P6, in the temporary girl’s dorm. She is cooling her porridge by transferring it back and forth between the orange and white cups. The porridge is made from maize flour and water. Her mother and father live in Bundibugyo which is fairly far from Kasese, it would take about three hours to get there via car. She lives at the school but has only been here for two weeks.

These are students who come from home in the morning, study during the day, and return home in the evening. When I asked them if they wanted to say anything to the people who would see this photo they said, “Tell them we love them! All of them! But mostly Madison and you!”
