background
Pastor Moses and his wife Dorcas founded the Destiny School and Kasese Pentecostal Church. They live in Kasese, Uganda with their five children: Catherine (17), Barbra (15), Frank (12), Melody (9), and Favor (5). Pastor Moses grew up in Kasese himself. His family life growing up helped him develop a passion to care for orphans. That passion ultimately led him to open up the Destiny School.
“My family went through a hard time. My father was elderly (Pastor Moses was born to his father in his 60’s) and all my elder brothers died of HIV, leaving behind 8 orphans. So my family became an orphanage all of a sudden!”
At the age of 17 while in secondary school, he received salvation during a funeral service. “That marked a turning point in my life despite the difficult conditions in our family.”
“I grew up in a home with so many orphans. When I started ministry, I felt it was necessary to for me as a church leader to address this need for education of the many orphans in my community instead of watching Muslims indoctrinate them with free education. I felt I needed to do something to groom this needy young generation in the way of the lord.”
early ministry
To start the school, Pastor Moses had to sell the only thing he had, a piece of land given to him by his father. Despite this sacrifice he still faced several financial challenges. Around that time, he got connected to Jim Stunkel and was able find some support for the school.
“Having sold my piece of land given to me by my dad as an inheritance to start the Destiny School, I ran out of funds. I couldn’t afford food for the children, staff salaries, and other operating costs of the Destiny School. I accumulated so many debts and my life was in dilemma!
I almost ran out of Kasese. My family was in a mess, I could hardly provide the supplies of my family due to the many demands at my school.
But I was helped by the partnership that I made with Celebration Church in Livermore, California.”
